Angela has more than 30 years experience in education and theater, having taught and directed theatre in San Diego, Chico, Yuba City, and at Woodland High School. She has a long history at the Woodland Opera House, beginning in 1975 when she appeared on stage with the Way Off Broadway Players as Ruby in "Dames at Sea". In 1997, Angela developed the WOH Show Biz Kidz summer camp program. She became the Education Director in 2002 and has build a comprehensive theatre and dance program that now serves hundreds of local children.

Emily Jo Seminoff email Emily Jo

Education Director

Emily Jo has been active in the local theatre community since her elementary school days. After studying Creative Writing and Children’s Theatre, she graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Sacramento. She directs and choreographs Theatre for Families and Rising Stars productions and enjoys performing as well. For her performances, she has received twenty one award nominations and is the recipient of four Elly Awards, five Chesley Awards and an Arty Award. She teaches theatre arts classes at the Woodland Opera House and at schools in Solano and Yolo counties. She enjoys working with students of all ages and loves introducing them to the magical world of theatre.


Eva Sarry

Ballet Instructor

Ms. Eva Sarry (Director of Woodland Opera House Dance Program) trained extensively in San Francisco at the Academy of Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet, American Conservatory Theatre, and Pacific Ballet. She has been teaching for over 10 years. She is currently teaching ballet and jazz as well as choreography for “Broadway Bound” the advanced musical theatre performance program at the Opera House. Ms. Sarry has choreographed several productions at the Woodland Opera House and earned an Elly nomination for her work in “Beauty and the Beast”, an Elly Award for “Peter Pan”, along with a Chesley Award for her performance in “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. She is also choreographer/director of the Opera House summer musical theatre camp “Show Biz Kidz” program. Ms. Sarry also directs and choreographs Theatre for Families productions.


Crissi Cairns

Dance & Musical Theatre Instructor

Crissi has been performing on the Woodland Opera House stage since 1995. She has been a Drama Instructor at WOH since the fall of 2010. Crissi graduated from Woodland High School in 2002 and since has studied at Sacramento City College, Woodland Community College and Sacramento State University. Crissi spent six years teaching Pre-Kindergarten at a private preschool and has an extensive background in Early Childhood Education. Involved in musical theater since age eleven, Crissi has performed in numerous productions in the Sacramento area. She received an Elly Award in 1999 for Leading Actress and was nominated for her choreography in "Grease" at Woodland High school in 2003

James Chave Glica Hernandez

Vocal Music Educator

James has music directed shows at the Woodland Opera House since 1998. He is a eight-time nominated and three-time Elly Award-winning musical director in the Sacramento area. He taught vocal music and music directed the musical theatre productions at Natomas Charter School Performing and Fine Arts Academy from 2001 to 2008. His vocal music teaching experience dates to the late 1970s. He studied music and theatre arts at CSU, Sacramento, and was mentored in conducting by Maestro Monroe Kanouse of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He sang and music directed the small vocal ensembles for the Sacramento Opera Association, an organization for which he was also Managing Director


Staci Arriaga
Tap Instructor
Staci has been teaching dance for over 20 years and choreographing musical theatre for the last 16 years. She spent 10 years dancing with The Lisa Clark Dancers and spent 20 years on their faculty teaching tap and jazz. Ms. Arriaga’s choreography has been seen in Solano, Contra Costa, and Sonoma Counties as well as the San Francisco Bay Area. She has earned two Dean Goodman Awards, one Elly Award and several Arty Awards as well as a Bay Area Critics Award nomination for her work. Her work was last seen at the  Woodland Opera House in the production of White Christmas.



Anna Walton

Ballet Instructor

Anna has been taking ballet since she was 4 and dancing for the Woodland Opera House with Miss Sarry since she was 14. Her work teaching ballet to younger students helped inspire her to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education. She is currently taking classes at Woodland Community College and hopes to transfer to Sacramento State.



Erik Catalan

Hip Hip/Musical Theatre Instructor

Erik has been performing in music, theater and dance in the greater Sacramento area for over 20 years, and has been involved in productions, both on and backstage, with Woodland Opera House for the last seven years.  As a participator in the Opera House’s Theater for Families, Erik’s performances have been nominated for three Elly Awards and winner of one local Chesley Award.  With an eclectic style and experience in jazz, tap, ballet and modern dance, Erik’s passion has always been for hip-hop.  



Katie Carlson

Music Director

Katie received her Masters of Music in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and her Bachelor of Music from the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music. Katie recently performed with the San Francisco Opera in their production of Mephistopheles and in the production of The Verdi Requiem. She has performed the role of Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Spirit (Dido and Aeneas), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Hero (L’Egisto) and Yum-Yum (The Mikado). She has performed with and is now on staff with AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) a summer program in Graz, Austria. Katie currently resides in San Francisco, but was born and raised in Woodland and is a graduate of Holy Rosary School and Woodland High School. She has studied voice since she was twelve years of age and her first performance was at the Woodland Opera House. In addition to performing, Katie worked for seven years with Yolo Stage Company, and is now teaching music at Holy Rosary School. 


Caryn Stapp

Drama Instructor

Caryn is a long-time Woodland resident.  She has been an educational specialist in the home school community for over five years teaching musical theater, history and mathematics.  She is certified through the Leadership Educational Mentoring Institute as a Shakespeare Leadership Mentor, giving youth tools to learn and love his great works through intense immersion and actor's training. Since becoming a mentor she has directed two full length Shakespeare production for teens: The Comedy of Errors and Much Ado About Nothing.   


Crystal Rea

Ballet Instructor

Crystal Rea comes to the Woodland Opera House Dance Education program with 10 years of teaching experience, emphasizing classical technique, strength, and performance skills. Crystal has over 20 years of ballet training with Hanneke Lohse and has garnered solo performances in such full-length ballets as CoppeliaNapoli, and as Clara in The Nutcracker.

Bessie Barth

Music Teacher

Bessie received her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Willamette University in 1996.  During her schooling she worked with a variety of clientele including children with hearing impairments, high school special day classes, skilled nursing, psychiatric facilities, and children's units in hospitals.  She completed her internship at Welborn Hospital, Mulberry Center in Evansville, Indiana, a short-term psychiatric unit for children and adolescents.  After completing her internship, Bessie spent two and a half years as a Music Therapist at Southside Arts Center in Sacramento, California, an adult day program for adults with developmental disabilities.  She, then, spent time working at the Veterans Home in Yountville, California in the short-term acute hospital and skilled nursing units.In May of 2000, Bessie began a private practice by becoming a vendor through ALTA California Regional Center.  As her work continued, she was able to develop contracts with school districts in the Sacramento area.  She spent two years working independently before expanding her practice to develop Music To Grow On and increase the number of therapists servicing children with special needs in the Sacramento region. In April 2006, Bessie was approved to hold a National Roster Internship site at Music To Grow On through the American Music Therapy Association.  She is the Internship Director and supervises two interns.  She also provides in-services to various groups including Speech Therapists, preschool teachers, and parent support groups about the benefits of Music Therapy.  In 2007, she completed advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy through the Center for Biomedical Research in Music, earning the credential of NMT.

Justine Villanueva
Dance Instructor

Justine received her BA in Drama from San Francisco State University. While there, she performed in and choreographed several plays. She also directed shows as part of the Brown Bag Theater. She has trained extensively in modern, jazz, and hip-hop dance. When not dancing or teaching dance, Justine writes fiction, practices bankruptcy law, and spends time with her husband and two young sons.

Kimmie Ruanto

Show Biz Kidz Instructor
Kimmie Ruanto started at the Woodland Opera House back in 2006 when she first participated in her first Show Biz Kids. Since then she has participated in "Broadway Bound" and several dance and acting classes at the Woodland Opera House. Kimmie has also been seen performing in shows such as "White Christmas", "Annie Jr.", "Peter Pan" and many more! She is currently studying Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting at California State University Chico with the goal of becoming a licensed CPA. She has been able to combine her love of theater and working with children by teaching at the summer musical theater camp Show Biz Kids.


Josh Wheeler

Vocal Instructor/Broadway Bound Music Director

Joshua was blessed to grow up in a family that loved music and as a child he performed piano, cello and vocal music.  In his teens he began study at Palomar Community College where he was the youngest member of the Palomar Chamber Singers and studied the American Kodály Methodology. He graduated from The Master’s College with his B.M in Vocal Performance and a minor in Business Administration.  He is the owner of Golden Oak Music Studios in Santa Clarita, California. He personally teaches music students in southern and northern California. His music students are an ambitious group serious and include series regulars on The Disney Chanel, Showtime, ABC and in major film and voiceover rolls. Josh has personally had the opportunity to perform in both exciting and somber locations from Carnegie Hall to Ground Zero, NYC. He believes that music can both inspire and heal.  He encourages his students to remember that every roll, from lead to ensemble, is a member of the cast, and that in our interactions with each other we are a powerful influence on the show.
