W.O.H. showcases professional and Theatre for Families artists during the school year that local schools bring their students, grades K-12, to see for a very small fee    per attendee. Outreach show attendance is reserved through your child’s teacher or resource person in advance with the W.O.H Box Office

Anne of Green Gables, the Musical

Thursday, September 21, 2017: 9:30 & 12:30

Anne of Green Gables follows the misadventures of a wildly independent orphan with fiery red hair and a temper to match. Cherished by generations, L.M. Montgomery's timeless classic comes to life in a new musical commissioned by the award-winning Theatreworks USA.Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to live with a plainspoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy! She wins over the Cuthberts and all of Prince Edward Island with her irrepressible spirit and imagination – and wins over audiences with this warm, poignant story about love, home and family. Adult and youth cast.Perfect for grades 2nd-8th. Tickets are $5 each.


Honk, Jr.

Friday, September 22, 2017: 9:30 & 12:30

A retelling Hans Christian Andersons’ The Ugly Duckling- witty and hilarious, but also deeply moving, Honk! JR. will treat your audiences to equal amounts of laughter and tears. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be. Honk, Jr. is a Rising Stars Workshop performed by students ages 7 and up. This show is perfect for Pre- K-4th grade audiences. Tickets are $5 each.


James and the Giant Peach

Thursday, January 18, 2018: 9:30 & 12:30

Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, James and the Giant Peach is a brand new musical take on this "masterpeach" of a tale. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way. Adult and youth cast. Perfect for grades 2nd-8th. Tickets are $5 each.

Same great story as above with a slightly shorter run-time for younger audiences. James and the Giant Peach, Jr. is a Rising Stars Workshop performed by students ages 7 and up. This show is perfect for Pre-K-4th grade audiences. Tickets are $5 each.

 

A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

Thursday, February 15, 2018: 9:30

On a Midsummer’s night, four young lovers find themselves wrapped in the dream-like arms of an enchanted forest where sprites lurk and fairies rule. While a feuding Fairy King and Queen are at war, their paths are crossed by Bottom, Quince and their friends presenting a play within a play. Chief mischief-maker Puck is on-hand to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth, and games of fantasy, love and dreams ensue in Shakespeare’s most beguiling comedy.  Adult cast. This show is for grades 6th - high school audiences. The show will run approximately 2 hours. Tickets are $5 each

 

The Emperor’s New Clothes

It’s not easy being 13, especially not for Calvin. His father, the kingdom’s beloved emperor, has died, and now Calvin is expected to assume the throne—the last thing this shy, awkward boy wants to do. And just when he needs his family most, Calvin's jealous Uncle Giles conspires with a couple of slippery con artists to steal the crown away from his vulnerable nephew. Can Calvin overcome his insecurities and thwart Giles’s dastardly plot? All will be revealed in this surprising new twist on the Hans Christian Andersen classic penned by WOH’s own Bob Cooner, creator of last season’s Prime Time for the Holiday. Adult and youth cast. Perfect for Pre-K-5th grade audiences.  Tickets are $5 each.
