Youth Summer Theatre Camp Show Biz Kidz-2017

 “HOORAY FOR HOLLYWOOD!”


Performances: Friday, July 14 at 7:00 and Saturday,

July 15 & Sunday, July 16 at 2:00


The Woodland Opera House Youth Summer Theatre Camp is an annual program designed to be an introduction to theatre performance for area youth with or without previous training or experience.  Students spend 4 weeks studying musical theatre technique including, singing, dancing, voice projection, characterization, theatre terminology, and theatre etiquette and professionalism. Students will develop performance skills and will be given an equal opportunity to shine on stage. The camp will culminate with performances of a Broadway -style musical revue, Show Biz Kidz– Hooray for Hollywood! Featuring favorite songs such as “Ghostbusters,” “On the Good Ship Lollipop,” "Star Wars," and “Staying Alive.”

Make believe! Summer Pre-ballet Workshop


Plies, Positions, Perfection! Come stretch your muscles and your imagination by learning ballet basics! Students will be introduced to the basics of movement, musicality, and ballet technique in a fun environment that fosters growth and development of their personal strengths.

Beginning Youth Tap




This tap workshop is geared towards the beginning tapper. Each class will start off with a warm up to get your feet moving, then across the floor basics, and end by putting it together within a combination.

Hula Dance

Students will learn traditional Hula and Tahitian steps and terminology.  At the completion of this session, students will be able to dance one to two dances.

Instructor Bio: Bernadette Puanani Cruz Breeding, Dance Instructor studied under late Kumu Hula Maria Reyes of “Tiare O’ Polynesia”. Later with Auntie Ruth Nalua Manaois, Anthony Waipa and Katrina Hali`imaile Manaois of “Hula Halau `Nalua and `Ote`a `Api”.  We have a combination of over 40 years of dancing and instruction experience.

 

Bernadette Puanani Cruz Breeding along with her brother Clarence Cruz founded PiliAloha Ohana/Otea Feti`i dance studio in 2002 and continues to teach traditional dances from Polynesia and Micronesia.



Mini Musical Workshop

It's a Hit!

A Musical of Innings and Winnings!


Celebrate good sportsmanship, teamwork, problem solving and learning how to win and lose with dignity and class! A new girl in town has joined the boys baseball team. No problem. But wait! She wants to be the pitcher? That has never been done before! Through five innings, the cast gets to play the parts of many favorite baseball players throughout history, and they learn how to be true All-Stars whether the score shows a win or loss! This 25 minute musical is created by John Jacobson and John Higgins.

Shakespeare Performance Workshop


This Shakespeare Theatre Class is designed to be an introduction to performing Shakespeare with varying levels of previous training or experience. Students will put together a one hour production of “Taming of the Shrew.” The performers will be trained in Iambic pentameter, voice projection, movement, and characterization. Students will gain hands on experience with the art of performing Shakespeare. The hourlong adaptation will include double casting to make sure that each student will be given the opportunity to play a pivotal role.

About the instructor:


Elsbeth began acting at 7 years old and first started teaching theater at the age of 15. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Performance and a Minor in Shakespeare Studies at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, and has worked as an actor and educator with The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and The Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Elsbeth also spent 2014 in Sitka Alaska where she taught theater at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, and was hired as director for the Children's Theater Program with Alaska Arts Southeast. 



Mystery Mondays- Whodunit Skits


Participants will help solve the mystery as they act out scenes in order to solve a crime. Throughout the mystery, some players become Suspects and others become Detectives, but all are involved the entire time. Most of the clues are revealed through their scripted scenes. When registering, a character list will be read to you and you can choose a character for your child. We will send an invitation to the mystery with the character card if your child would like to prep for their character. Character dress-up is highly encouraged!


 

 

Crisis at the Castle


Hear ye, hear ye! There's a crisis in the royal kingdom: Princess Pennyfeather has been captured by a ferocious dragon! The castle folk are beside themselves with worry - until a brave dragon slayer arrives to defeat the dragon and rescue the princess. However, things take a mysterious turn when the dragon slayer goes missing! What happened to the dragon slayer…and what will become of Princess Pennyfeather?

Princess Mystery in Fairy Tale Land


It’s Fashion Week in Fairy Tale Land, and all of the beloved storybook characters are competing in a Fairy Tale Fashion Show! Everyone is ready to show off her designs on the runway...until a beloved fairy tale character suddenly disappears, and the show can’t go on! Talk about a fashion faux pas!

It's talent show night at Camp Ana-waka-weeeble-wobble-rama-lama-ding-dong, the coolest camp on Earth. But when the talent show judge is poisoned with a cup of juice, it becomes clear that someone doesn't want the show to go on!
